chapter Five ... page 32

The Future

Thom agreed that would be a good idea and so Dusty was set loose to venture out of the paddock. The pony slowly moved through the short hallway that led to the fresh air and then looked back as if to get reassurance that it was okay. Cyndi told Dusty to go ahead boy – that it’s fine. Within a few minutes, Dusty was roaming about outside, along the fenced enclosure. He seemed to stop and sniff the air at the edge of the fens line where the Orb had uprooted some topsoil, less than 24 hours earlier. Again, Dusty looked back to the barn area for reassurance. Again, Cyndi told him it was okay. Soon, the pony was galloping along playfully and appearing to familiarize himself with his new surrounding which would be his new home.

Audrey announced that they better get back to the house to have Breakfast. And so everyone returned to the house. All except Thom who could not keep from sneaking back into the barn and up the wooden ladder to peer at the Orb. Satisfied that everything was copasetic, he, too made his way back to the family’s house, just over the small ridge that divided the property.

The weather was still quite warm for that time of year but the clouds, overhead suggested that rain my be in the forecast. During Breakfast, Cyndi questioned whether she could start riding Dusty. Charles explained that Dusty had just reached the age where he could safely carry a rider and that it may be best to wait a while longer. He told Cyndi that it was probably best if she visited the barn just a time or two per day for 30 minutes or so, just to give Dusty the chance to acclimate himself with his surroundings and to the Martins.

The children played with their Christmas toys for the rest of the morning and Corey spent some time riding his new bike around the front driveway. He had been cautioned to not enter the roadway, just yet. He could ride to his friends homes, nearby by using the path that ran perpendicular to the road but only after he had mastered the bike.

… The weather was still quite warm ..
