goodbye prodigal rascal

verse 1
there once lived a rascal
whose soul was a maze
meandering through passages
for most of his days
and although his ramblings
were the turn of a phrase
he secretly hid his heart
in his many essays

hook
so goodbye you prodigal rascal
lullabys and butterflies are free
the maidens that choose you
are the ones that lose you
if you’d close your eyes you’d see
you were everything you wanted to be
everything but you and me

verse 2
there were many a nights
when the goblins surrounded you
there were so many daybreaks
when away they flew
you had all the blind answers
the thoughtless questions, to   (sic)
but it all seemed so aimless
with your humorous point of view

verse 3
now the prodigal rascal
resides off in the distance
all by himself
without any assistance
that’s how he wanted
to live his existance
so hard to believe
in spite of his insistance

island retreat

1st verse
i’m just an old wordsmith
living down here in the keys
it gets hot in the summer
but in the winter i don’t freeze
sometimes i get away
fishing out on the high seas
but mostly i just hang around
enjoying the life of ease

hook
that’s what i’m doing in this town
i don’t let anything get me down
you’ll never catch me with a frown
i never make a lonesome sound
i’m doing fine on this isle
you can see it in my smile
nothing’s going to cramp my style
i guess i’ll stay here for a while

2nd verse
i’m just a lyrical composer
at the end of this island chain
spending the nights with miss brandy
and the days with mary jane
i’m just as happy in the sunshine
as i am in the rain
and if ever i get homesick
i just jump on an airplane

repeat hook

bridge

3rd verse
i’m just a supernatural cosmic cowboy
living life out on the range
and if you knew me in my prime
you’d know it isn’t all that strange
and the ones that have always known me
know that i’m never going to change
cause there’s nothing in my past
that i’d ever rearrange

my demise has set me free

verse 1
wounded silence over the horizon appear
beneath a gleaming sky
drenched with arid richness
while the world wonders why
hiding behind an unlocked door
for all mankind to see

hook
i was born on my last day
my demise has set me free

verse 2
helpless forms of caustic requests
hanging by adversarial means
takes a promissory mission
of reds and blues and greens
members swearing members
easy as one two three

repeat hook

verse 3
religious fools aim their dearth
at those who do not pray
convincing independents that
it’s all they have to say
everyone wants to buy it
the cost of which is free

repeat hook

verse 4
conservative thinking vagrants hide
while testifying malicious belief
confounding material vanguards
chastising those with grief
good or bad it matters not
to be or not to be

repeat hook

verse 5
expert time has finally materialized
exposing grandiose partisan claims
confusion mounting pretence
screaming softly like foxfire flames
predatory mounting epic fail
filling all who pan with glee

repeat hook

verse 6
feigning enemies as fearless foes
makes soldiers of us all
yet history has defined us now
as tearing down that wall
but playing left against the right
is like subtracting you from me
