Dear Blog

Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live had to be the poorest individual performance on that show EVER !
We were led to believe that she was prepared to do an excellent job. She did not.
The cold opening was Tina Fey doing her spot on impersonation of Palin.
Then, a few minutes in, the camera panned to Lorne Michaels position as Producer where Palin stood at his side. She feigned disgust and disbelief at Fey’s portrayal .. but she appeared lost.
Alec Baldwin sauntered by and began chastizing Michaels for allowing ‘their’ Tina to associate with that monster (Palin). Of course, he was giving the impression that he thought Fey was Palin .. and that Palin was Fey.
Michaels set him straight and Palin suggested that Stephen was the best Baldwin Brother.
Alec did not miss a beat and offered his arm to Palin and escorted her to the main stage and whispered something to Fey. Tina muttered aloud, “the real one” .. and hustled away. At that point, Palin rambled incoherently for a second and then delivered the line – Live, From New York .. It’s Saturday Night.
Nothing more / nothing less.

Then, she was introduced 40 minutes later during the Weekend Update segment. The Veep Republican candidate then informed Seth Myers that she was not going to perform the Piece that was written for her. She reasoned that it would not be in her best interest. I think what she meant was theatrically and not politically. Regardless, Amy Poehler stepped in and performed the bit flawlessly. AND it was hiliarious !

Finally, Palin stood on the Closing Stage and waved goodbye at Show’s finale.

It may not have hurt her .. but it darn sure did NOTHING to help herself.
Every actor and politician that’s ever appeared on that show has poked fun at themselves .. including McCain, Hillary, Barack Obama et al.
Palin should have done the same .. but she does not compete .. because it’s obvious that she can not. Politically nor theatrically.

The Washington Redskins .. beat the Cleveland Browns, 14 – 11 on Sunday at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. The game was not that close and I am perplexed that for the last two weeks, the Redskins have outperformed their competition only to lose one game while barely winning the other.
Still, I am happy .. if not satisfied.
I should add that the Dallas Cowbabies lost to the suddenly ferocious, St. Louis Rams, 34 – 14.
I pull for two teams each NFL week / the Washington Redskins AND whomever plays the Cowbabies.

Clinton Portis ran 27 times for 175 yards and a TD. Portis leads the NFL in Rushing yards. He did have a near crucial Fumble late in the contest.
Jason Campbell completed 14 passes in 23 attempts for 164 yards and no INTs.
The Redskins Defense, once again, played fabulously !

In the best Division in the NFL (the NFC East) ..
The Giants are 5 – 1 ..
while the Redskins are 5 - 2
and Cowbabies are 4 – 3
and the Iggles are 3 - 3 after this, their Bye week.

The Redskins next game is at Ford Field, in Detroit, Michigan ..
Sunday, October 26 at 1:00 PM verses the Detroit Lions.
The game will be televised by FOX and can be seen in the Washington market on channel 5. In Key West, it can viewed it on Direct TVs Sunday Ticket.

Now Baseball:
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4 games to 1 in the best of 7 National League Championship Series ..
and advance to the World Series.
In the American League Championship Series, the Tampa Bay Rays have beaten the Boston Red Sox, 4 games to 3 .. and will host the Phillies in the World Series.

Since the American League won this year’s All-Star Game .. they will have Home Field Advantage in that best of 7 Series.

Auto Racing:
Two time defending NASCAR Champion, Jimmie Johnson won NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series Race, the Tums QuikPak 500
Sunday, October 19 that was televised, nationally, by ABC.
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. finished 2nd and Carl Edwards finished 3rd.
The Race was the 6th of 10 in what is being called the ‘Chase’ .. and equates to NASCAR’s Playoffs to Championship run.
Joe Gibbs Racing’s Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin finished 26th, 29th and 5th, respectively. The other JGR member who is slated to replace Tony Stewart, next year ( Joey Lagano ) did not compete.
These 3 top Driver’s are currently ranked 8th, 11th and 12th in the ‘Chase’.

The next NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race will be the Pep Boys Auto Georgia 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia on Sunday, October 26 at 1:00 PM and televised, nationally, by ABC.

Hockey:
The Washington Capitals have a record of 5 – 3 – 1 .. and lead the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League.
Their next contest is Tuesday, October 21 verses the Calgary Flames in Calgary, Alberta, Canada at the Calgary Stadium.

Pro Basketball:
The National Basketball Association’s Washington Bullets open their 2008 – 2009 Season on October 29, 2008 at the aforementioned Verizon Center verses the New Jersey Nets.

Rascal is, still, doing well on her Rimadyl.
Stimey (the cat) is, also, well .. although he is not under medication.

Today in Key West, the high air temperature is predicted to be 85 degrees with a overnight low of 76 degrees.
Today’s LoCo weather forecast calls for air temperatures of 67 degrees and with an overnight low of 36 degrees.
