chapter Six … page45

Secret’s Out

At that time, the second TV worker had a small object that he pushed into the dirt along the path of uprooted grass and loudly exclaimed, using an expletive, that his partner should come back there. He exclaimed that his Geiger-Muller Tube needle was bouncing off it’s side wall. Finally, it had broken off. He allowed that the gamma radiation was at dangerous levels and it might be prudent to request a team of scientists to examine the area. The lead TV reporter immediately pulled out his cell phone to call his Producer, at his home but the device could not only not pick up a signal – it shut off, completely. All four men had disbelieving looks on their faces. Soon, Thom spoke with a quivering tone to his voice saying that the space debris must have caused an impact zone of charged alpha-beta particles. He instructed the TV personnel to vacate the premises, forthwith. And they did.

Once the Television Crew had reassembled in the Martin’s front yard, the decision was made to contact the local environmental science laboratory and recommend that they perform an extensive test on the area for safety concerns. Thom spoke with them as they prepared to leave to determine what he should expect in the way of further intrusions at the property. He was assured that the TV station would contact him with their findings and that the science lab would schedule a visitation at the site.

Thom and Charles returned to the house feeling a bit better about no more reporters snooping around the barn area where the EOB was but still perplexed by the thought of future visits by scientists and most assuredly governmental types. Audrey and Janice were waiting to hear what had transpired during the TV stations’ personnel’s inspection of the crash zone. The kids were not as concerned as this was Christmas and there were toys and games to be played with. The adults convened over coffee to decide what course of action to take.
