5500 YEARS FROM HOME

chapter Six … page 52

Secret’s Out

Thom climbed down from the barn’s attic and briskly walked back up to the house. Once there, Audrey had breakfast ready for the family. As they ate, they discussed how to go about protecting their property from whomever may try and trespass, again. Audrey allowed that they should call R. William Jones, the attorney that has represented them in the past when they had a property dispute with the corporation that purchased the lots next to the Martins. After they had finished their morning coffee, Audrey made that call but Jones was out of town and would not return for several more days.

By mid afternoon the phone rang and it was the Coventry Police Department. The Detective wanted to speak with Thom concerning the video that was taken from the Martin’s barn. When Thom got on the line, the Detective asked to be allowed to come back to the Martins home to verify what he had seen on the video disc. Thom decided to decline the request and asked that all further matters concerning that be handled through attorney Jones. Thom, also, declined to answer any further questions concerning it.

No sooner had Thom hung up the phone, it rang again. This time it was Dorothy Willoby, the Preacher’s wife, asking if the Martins were listening to the local Radio station. She said they were reporting that a Spaceship had landed in Coventry Hills near Hill’s Canyon. And since these two families’ properties were adjacent to the canyon, Dorothy assumed that they, both, would be inundated with people wanting to see for themselves. Especially with the flash across the sky on Christmas Eve. And before Thom could get off the phone, he could already see cars stopping along the road in front of their house.

Thom decided to try and trick the rubberneckers who were looking all about near their home. He sent Corey out into the front yard to tell the people that the flash of light had disappeared over the ridge further down the road from their property. And it was working.
