can't be happy at christmas

can’t be happy at christmas

1

there’s some people i’m told
so sullen and cold
that they can’t be
.....happy at christmas
when the big day arrives
in most of their lives
they wonder what happened
.....to their wish list
and they cry because their lives
.....are so listless

2

there’s a signpost on the road
that exacerbates their load
and they wonder why they feel
.....such sadness
so they turn left and right
from the day into the night
because they know life comes down
.....to good and badness
and they sigh feeling trapped
.....by all the madness

3

how would you feel if you knew
why the sky was so blue
and the clouds were just
.....water and air
would it make you realize
how the bird flys
or why they are always
.....in a pair
would you be amazed or still
.....not really care

4

and everything shall pass
like the drink from the glass
our time on this planet
.....is so fleeting
but if you don’t understand
the majesty of this plan
perhaps you must arrange
.....such a meeting
to find out why your heart
.....is really beating

5

the cornerstone is set
to carry all the debt
that is known as the
.....building’s foundation
and our lives are the same
because of where we came
is what is known as
.....the eternal creation
and it’s recorded in time
.....as the manifestation

6

yes they can wind their lives uptight
and hope with all their might
that they can get across
.....the narrow isthmus
they can scream – they can shout
they can cry – they can pout
but until they make it
.....their business
they will continue to swing
.....and miss much

and still they won’t be
.....happy at christmas

the ANT & the GRASSHOPPER

Friday December 26, 2008
*************************

My version of:
the ANT & the GRASSHOPPER
with apologies to Wikipedia and Jim Henson

The Ant and the Grasshopper is a fable attributed to Aesop, providing a moral lesson about hard work and preparation .. written by B. E. Perry.

The fable concerns a Grasshopper who has spent the warm months singing away while the Ant worked to store up food for winter. After the Winter has come, the Grasshopper finds itself dying of hunger, and upon asking the Ant for food .. is only rebuked for its idleness.

The story is used to teach the virtues of hard work and saving, and the perils of improvidence. Some versions of the fable state a moral at the end, along the lines of:

Idleness brings want.

To work today is .. to eat tomorrow

It is best to prepare for the days of necessity

Now, I understand the importance of working and saving ..
But I never did appreciate the Ant for being stingy. I’m not stingy .. and I hate stingyness.

So, this is my ending:
As Winter came on .. and it was cold and snowing and the wind was howling ..
The Ant was crossing the Highway with his food .. in an attempt to hide it from the no account Grasshopper, when .. he was run over and killed by the Grasshopper who was on his way to Key West, Florida for the Winter .. driving the 1958 red Corvette that his girlfriend gave him .. because she dug his Singing & Fiddle Playing, so much.

Happy Christmas (War Is Over)

Written by: John Lennon

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young

/ D - / Em - / A7 - / D - / G - / Am - / D - / G - /

{Refrain}
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

/ C - / Dm - / Am C / G A7 /

And so this is Christmas ………. War is over
For weak and for strong ………. If you want it
For rich and the poor ones ………. War is over
The road is so long ………. Now
And so happy Christmas ………. War is over
For black and for white ………. If you want it
For yellow and red ones ………. War is over
Let's stop all the fight ………. Now

{Refrain}

And so this is Christmas ……….. War is over
And what have we done ………. If you want it
Another year over ………. War is over
And a new one just begun ………. Now
And so happy Christmas ………. War is over
I hope you have fun ………. If you want it
The near and the dear one ………. War is over
The old and the young ………. Now

{Refrain}

War is over if you want it
War is over now

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Thursday December 18, 2008
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" (sometimes with Coming changed to Comin') is a Christmas song. It was written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie, and was first sung on Eddie Cantor's radio show in November 1934. It became an instant hit with orders for 100,000 copies of sheet music the next day and over 400,000 copies sold by Christmas.

You better watch out
You better not cry
You better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town

He's making a list,
Checking it twice;
Gonna find out who's naughty or nice.
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake
With little tin horns and little toy drums
Rooty toot toots and rummy tum tums
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake
Goodness sake

You better watch out
You better not cry
You better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming
Santa Claus is coming
Santa Claus is coming to town
(Coming to town)

Santa's a busy man he has no time to play
He's got millions of stockings to fill on Christmas day
(Santa Claus is coming to town)
(Coming to town)
(Santa Claus is coming to town)
(Coming to town)

Night Before Christmas

Friday December 12, 2008
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Twas The
NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Written by:
Clement Clarke Moore & Henry Livingston

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;

And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!

To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;

A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."

Bells Will Be Ringing

Written by: Don Henley
Performed by: Eagles

O Bells will be ringing
this sad sad sad news
Oh what a Christmasto have the blues
My baby's gone
I have no friends
To wish me greetings
once again

O Choirs will be singing
Oo Silent Night
Christmas carols by candle light
Please come home for Christmas
Please come home for Christmas
If not for Christmas by New Years night

Friends and relations
Send salutations
Sure as the stars shine up above
But this is Christmas
Yeah, it's Christmas my dear
It's the time of year to be with the one you love .

So won't you tell me
You'll never more roam
Christmas and the New Year
Will find you home
There`ll be no more sorrow
No grief and pain
And I'll be happy, happy, once again

There be no more sorrow
No grief and pain
It'll be a happy, Christmas, once again

it really doesn't seem like christmas

2 9 113 away – 9 ; Blog version re-write

larry..curtis..spurlock

it really doesn’t seem like christmas

it really doesn’t seem like christmas
it doesn’t seem like christmas this year
living in this old lady’s basement
missing out on all the good cheer

is this really christmas
is this the happy holidays
the calendar says december 25th
but my head and my heart are in a daze

i am alone - i am alone
i am all alone
and very, very very stoned

it really doesn’t seem like christmas
christmas has never been this bad
but living with you was so hurtful
i’d rather be lonely than so sad

i’m sitting here listening to blue christmas
elvis is on the radio
it really must be the week before new years
but i can’t feel the ho ho ho

i am alone - i am alone
i am all alone
and very, very very stoned

it really doesn’t seem like christmas
i didn’t even decorate a tree
but life with you was just as empty
oh oh oh lonesome me

i always used to love christmas
entertaing all my many friends
but now they are all over at my old house
and i’m hiding here where the rainbow never ends

i am alone - i am alone
i am all alone
and very, very very stoned

it really doesn’t seem like christmas
i am alone
it really doesn’t seem like christmas
i am alone
it really doesn’t seem like christmas
i am all alone
it really doesn’t seem like christmas
and still i am very very stoned

Simply Having A Wonderful
Christmastime

Words & Music and Vocals by: Paul McCartney

The moon is right
The spirits up
Were here tonight
And thats enough

Simply having a wonderful Christmastime
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

The partys on
The feelins here
That only comes
This time of year

Simply having a wonderful Christmastime
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

The choir of children sing their song
Ding dong, ding dong
Ding dong, ding ohhhh
Ohhhhhhh

Simply having a wonderful Christmastime
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

The word is out
About the town
To lift a glass
Ahhh dont look down

Simply having a wonderful Christmastime
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

The choir of children sing their song
They practiced all year long
Ding dong, ding dong
Ding dong, ding dong
Ding dong, ding dong

The partys on
The spirits up
Were here tonight
And thats enough

Simply having a wonderful Christmastime
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

The moon is right
The spirits up
Were here tonight
And thats enough

Simply having a wonderful Christmastime
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

Simply having a wonderful Christmastime
Simply having a wonderful Christmastime

facing the tide

chorus
facing the tide - facing the tide
lord knows i’m facing the tide
but i still got nothing to hide
facing the tide - facing the tide
i may get washed away lord
but i still got nothing to hide

1
i woke up this morning
the rain falling to the ground
couldn’t get the car started
so i’m still just hanging around
thinking about what’s to come
feeling like i’m on the run
on the run — on the run
still trying to have some fun

repeat chorus

2
well the trial of my life
will be here two weeks from tomorrow
and win or lose
i’ll be facing lonely sorrow
thinking about what’s to come
feeling like i’m on the run
on the run — on the run
trying to get a few things done

repeat chorus

3
well i have a few possessions
divided by two they ain’t much
be good to me lord
i’ll try not to cause a fuss
thinking about what’s to come
feeling like i’m on the run
on the run — on the run
going from two to one ... yes
going from two .. to one

repeat chorus – 2x - out -
