5500 YEARS FROM HOME

chapter Seven … page 60

Emergency Jump

She discussed with him what had caused him to surmise such a thought. Corey responded that the neighborhood kids were guessing that an alien was living at their house. Audrey decided that saying nothing more would be best and so she laughed and whimsically dismissed the notion that the Police would have found it if that were so. Corey agreed but Cyndi was being surprisingly moot on the topic.
And so, nothing more was said on the subject.

The next few days were difficult on the family as the adults were fear stricken and the children missed their father. He had been away on business, before and they had a taste of it but this time it took place unexpectedly. And it was happening over the Holidays, which seemed all the more melancholy. Tonight was New Year’s Eve and as the town prepared for it, the Martin household was griped in fear.
Usually, they celebrated at friends and neighbors or at Church but this year, that would not be the case. Audrey had told her kids that they could stay up until Midnight to welcome in the new year and so not going out was overlooked. During the times when someone would call Audrey inviting them by for a drink, she declined but did not mention Thom being away. And so, New Year’s Eve was quite different, especially since Thom’s father’s birthday was New Year’s Day and they had celebrated it, too, for the past three years since he had passed away..
Regardless, Charles and Janice had gone to the store and purchased snacks and drinks for the family as they prepared for a celebratory evening in.

As nighttime aproached, the family was prepared to stay at home and watch TV.

… Thom’s father’s birthday was New Year’s day ..
