chapter Nine … page 78

Beatles’ Land

For a brief moment, he considered not going in. When you’re from 2008 and traveling around in 1964, any minutia is disconcerting. Still he slung his Carry-All over his shoulder and confidently made his way to the front doorway. Once there, he was asked his name by the Captain. Without hesitation, Thom replied George Martin as he reached for his 2008 picture Driver’s License. He was somewhat surprised when the Captain asked him how his flight was. Still, Thom replied in the affirmative but continued to show his ID while holding his fingers over the date. The Captain briefly glanced at it and remarked to another Officer that ‘those British sure have modern looking IDs'. Thom was puzzled but continued on to the Front Desk. Once there, he spoke but only said George Martin. Again, he was asked how his flight was. For some reason, Thom thought it proper to throw a minor Cockney accent on his affirmative rejoinder. Thom knew something was awry when he was handed a room key and told the other four are already in their rooms. No money was requested and no ID was requested. And so he looked at his key and headed for the elevator. The key was for room 616 and so Thom entered the elevator and pushed 6 on the button panel.
.
On his way up, he was seriously considering dashing out of the Hotel because it seemed that there was a personal mix-up as to whom he was. This could only turn out negatively.
.
As the door slid open on floor 6, Thom saw several people and decided to continue onwards to 616. As he reached the room, he heard a definitive English accent. The voice said ‘oh, they gave you George’s room, ah, Mate ? Thom smiled and nodded his head. He finally looked up to see a very youthful Paul McCartney. He was shocked but the account was becoming clearer. Paul, again spoke saying that Thom must be a Special Operation Officer. Continuing that their Musical Director, George Martin did not make the trip.

… And so he looked at his key and headed for the elevator. ..
