riding on the freeway of life
going nowhere fast
no exit in site
2
oh oh my, what a lost feeling
too far to turn back
too high a ceiling
3
didn't like myself during this time
the choices weren't there
had no rhymes
4
don't want to be a bitter bitch
so i'll respectfully refrain
from wallowing in the ditch
5
chapters fleeting in this book
one day i'm doing social studies
next day i'm learning to kill a gook
6
from june '68 thru nov. '69
i was thrust into space
i was lost in time
7
after i graduated my old high school
my parents moved away
i felt like a fool
8
didn't have a chance for college
cause without big money
education's a folly
9
and the only thing confronting me
was viet nam
and the us army
10
you really couldn't crib'n'shack
what girl would take a chance
on a guy who might not come back
11
beer and a room is your prize
so you work for a dollar
and hang out with local guys
12
there you have the devil's playground
you find yourself doing
different things that you've found
13
not much chance without family
to be there for you
helping you see
14
so you feel trapped and rolled
lost in the middle
lonely and cold
15
so you waste away for a year and a half
survive two years in the army
then you sigh; then you laugh
16
i wish i had had an easier road
but i've taken classes
and learned the code
17
although i've tried hard to succeed
i only am who i am
i come from the seed
18
but i'll do everything i can
to make sure my child
has an easier plan
19
yes i've had unknowing heartache
and she'll be spared that
for the grace of god's sake
20
my memory of that time is dank
it's just a part of my life
i keep locked away in a tank
21
just keep that lost feeling put away
and always remind yourself
today is a different day
22
celebrate passing through the storm
and getting soaking wet
but then getting warm
23
it just seemed like i had no choice
i was in a play
without a voice
24
those hard times are gone
and now i'm here
to face the dawn
25
lest there be doubt, i am me
no more - no less
just what you see
26
in a much later time i'm cosmic cowboy
riding my c b
all of the mclean's girls’ toy
27
just ten years after
the darkness seemed gone
i thought i heard laughter
28
still that cloud isn't far from me
it rains some
but i'm under a tree
29
maybe i learned from an earlier time
twenty-eight years later
this child is mine
30
so life is life - is life - is life
is heavy - is heavy - is heavy
but you pay the price
31
now everything is flowing free
don't be a don't be
be a doobie
32
maybe everyone has a cross
to bear during life
to pay the cost
33
but you got to move ahead
don't let a nightmare
ruin your head
34
if you find you're all alone
don't give up
fight for the bone
35
you'll find just as i
keep moving along
you'll soon start to fly
36
and once you have gained some lift
you re on your way
life is a gift
37
so don't stick your head in the sand
keep it up high
stick to a plan
38
then all of the people you know
will say you're doing fine
you defeated your foe
39
and as you come on down the slope
all who see
you didn't give up hope
40
even though you've had a tough time
you get over it
you make a rhyme
41
during that period i wasn't the man
i've now become
i set a plan
42
now if you have an empty cup
just do your best
to fill it up
43
and if you don't go over the top
it doesn't matter
when it's time to stop
44
because you've given it your best
god will smile on you
you've passed the test

you’ve passed the test

Why Is The DL So Crowded?

Monday March 30, 2009
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
.
The following article has been excerpted from a Major League Baseball site styled as the
Bleacher Report.
This commentary was written by:
Cliff Eastham
.
What is up with the multitude of players being put on the shelf in the Major Leagues ?
.
It seems like every day at least one more player gets put on the DL. For what? Jammed thumb, bruised arm, severe hangnail? The old-timers would rub dirt on it and walk it off. They would spit on the DL, if there even was such a thing back then.
.
A manager needs to be a personnel director in order to keep track of his 25 players. Let's see, this one is on a rehab assignment in Paducah. That one is on bereavement leave. This guy is out for at least a month. This one couldn't hit water if he was throwing from a boat, let's send him to our 'A' team till he works out the wrinkles.
.
See what I mean? It is ridiculous. How come everybody is getting hurt? Line drives hitting them in the nose. Pitchers hitting them in the elbow. Batters fouling pitches off their own knee.
Every year you can count on some players to hit the DL at least once. You know the names. Pedro Martinez, Mike Hampton, Randy Johnson, Jim Thome, Nick Johnson, Kerry Wood, Mark Pryor (if he even plays at all), Scott Rolen, Jim Edmonds, Chipper Jones, ad nauseum. Last season the Reds had three shortstops out of commission, Alex Gonzalez, Jeff Keppinger and Jerry Hairston, Jr.
.
I know most of the time it isn't their fault, but sometimes it is. A southpaw pitcher comes out of a game, steamed, and punches the water cooler with his left hand. Come on, millions of dollars and you are going to take care of your money maker like that? Give me a break.
I've said it before, but I don't recall guys in the 50's and 60's getting hurt badly enough to come out of the game, let alone go on a list. I'm sure it happened, but I guarantee it didn't happen at the rate it does now.
.
It could possibly all boil down to money. In the day, players had to actually have a "real" job in order to feed the bulldog. Today, most of them make more in an hour than you probably make all year. So a question isn't really a question, if you know the answer too (John Prine).

Dr. Livingston, I Presume

Thursday March 26, 2009
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

"Dr. Livingston, I Presume"
.
Written and performed by: Ray Thomas
and the Moody Blues

Doctor Livingston, I presume,
Stepping out of the jungle gloom
Into the midday sun.
What did you find there?
Did you stand awhile and stare?
Did you meet anyone?
"I've seen butterflies galore,
I've seen people big and small,
I've still not found what I'm looking for.
.
"We're all looking for someone.
We're all looking for someone.
We're all looking for someone.
.
Captain Scott, you were so bold,
Now you're looking rather cold
Out there in the snow.
What did you find there?
Did you stand awhile and stare?
Did you meet anyone?
"I've seen polar bears and seals,
I've seen giant Antarctic eels,
I've still not found what I'm looking for.
.
"We're all looking for someone.
We're all looking for someone.
We're all looking for someone.
.
Columbus, where are you bound?
So you think the world is round.
Sailed off in the blue.
What did you find there?
Did you stand awhile and stare?
Did you meet anyone?
"There are Indians by the score
In many places that I saw.
I've still not found what I'm looking for.
.
"We're all looking for someone.
We're all looking for someone.
We're all looking for someone.

chapter Eight … page 61

Thom’s Birth Day

As the Orb sizzled through timeless space, knowing no bounds – Thom’s thoughts seemed to be driving the force. His latest vision was at his birthplace between New York and Coventry. Soon, the craft had settled onto terra firma and the EOB directed Thom to remain motionless until he could determine their time and space coordinates. The conclusion was undetermined due to the Orb’s previous crash back at the Martin’s. The EOB was content to lie in wait but Thom was anxious to see where they had escaped to. So, now realizing that his thoughts could determine outcome, Thom visualized the craft’s door opening .. and indeed it did. Thom leaned out of the vessel to see only woods and a creek and blacktop pavement beyond that.
.
The EOB was still unwieldy in body and mind but allowed Thom to venture outside in an exploring expedition.
.
Once Thom was standing outside the craft, he could see a fairly large redbrick building just past the edge of the woods. As he walked in that direction, he could see cars parked in a lot. They appeared to be American made. And so he continued to wander towards that building. He could telepathically hear the EOB with cautionary ambivalence. Soon, Thom was in the parking lot and as he approached the large building, he noticed a 1963 Ford Fairlane. He was not a big car buff but he knew that particular vehicle because there was a picture of his parents holding him as a baby in front of that make and model car. During his childhood it sat on their TV.
Thom began to reminisce about his parents. They had, both, passed away within the last 3 years from Cancer.
.
As Thom passed by the cars, he could see the writing on the brick building. It said General Hospital. Within a few minutes, several people came walking out of the building in Thom’s direction. He was hesitant about seeing anyone as the EOB had instructed him not to do.

… It said General Hospital. ..

Lone Ranger meets Tonto

Friday March 20, 2009
***********************

The Lone Ranger Meets Tonto
for the first time

The Lone Ranger was riding on his horse, Silver, one afternoon.
And as he rode just past of bunch of rocks, he happened to notice an Indian lying in the Wagon Trail .. his ear to the ground.
So, the Lone Ranger rode on over near the Indian, knowing he was hearing vibrations through the ground.

“ Whatcha doing, Indian ? “ asked the Lone Ranger.
The Indian groaned quitely and remarked,
“ Wagon .. pulled by 2 horses .. wagon left rear wheel bent ! “
“ No kidding ? “ asked the Lone Ranger, respectfully.
The Indian continued,
“ Man .. woman .. sittin’ in front … “
“ Damn ! “ said the Lone Ranger .. “ You Indians are good. You can tell a man and a woman’s approching in a wagon with a bent rear left wheel and 2 horses ! Damn ! “
The Indian continued,
“ 2 youngins in back of wagon .. one horse black with white spots .. water bucket on back, leaking water .. “
Now the Lone Ranger is completely astonished.
“ Indian, are you telling me that this wagon’s that’s a coming .. has a bent rear left wheel, 2 horses – one black with white spots, a man and a woman .. and 2 youngins in the back .. and the water bucket’s a leaking ? Is that what you’re telling me ? “

“ No ! “ said the Indian,
“ .. not a coming. Just ran over me, .. 5 minutes ago ! “

So, the Lone Ranger helped him up .. asked his name (which was Tonto) and nursed him back to health. And they bonded and became lovers forevermore.

The End

Girls Talk

Thursday March 19, 2009

Girls Talk

Written by: Elvis Costello
And performed by others such as:
Linda Ronstadt and Dave Edmunds

There are some things you cant cover up
with lipstick and powder
I thought I heard you mention my name,
cant you talk any louder ?
Dont come any closer,
dont come any nearer
My vision of you
cant get any clearer
Oh, I just want to hear girls talk

I got a loaded imagination
being fired by girls talk
But I cant say
the words you want to hear
I suppose you're going to have to
play it by ear
Right here
and now
Girls talk
and they want to know how
Girls talk
and they say its not allowed
Girls talk,
if they say that its so
Dont you think that I know
by now

That the word up
on everyones lips
Stick that youre dedicated
Though you may not be an old fashioned girl
You're still going to get (laid) dated
Was it really murder ?
Were you just pretending ?
Lately I have heard you
are the living end

Girls talk
and they wanna know about her
Girls talk,
they wanna know if I care
Girls talk
and they wanna know where
Girls talk
girls talk
Yeah yeah yeah
yeah yeah

Emergency Jump

She discussed with him what had caused him to surmise such a thought. Corey responded that the neighborhood kids were guessing that an alien was living at their house. Audrey decided that saying nothing more would be best and so she laughed and whimsically dismissed the notion that the Police would have found it if that were so. Corey agreed but Cyndi was being surprisingly moot on the topic.
And so, nothing more was said on the subject.

The next few days were difficult on the family as the adults were fear stricken and the children missed their father. He had been away on business, before and they had a taste of it but this time it took place unexpectedly. And it was happening over the Holidays, which seemed all the more melancholy. Tonight was New Year’s Eve and as the town prepared for it, the Martin household was griped in fear.
Usually, they celebrated at friends and neighbors or at Church but this year, that would not be the case. Audrey had told her kids that they could stay up until Midnight to welcome in the new year and so not going out was overlooked. During the times when someone would call Audrey inviting them by for a drink, she declined but did not mention Thom being away. And so, New Year’s Eve was quite different, especially since Thom’s father’s birthday was New Year’s Day and they had celebrated it, too, for the past three years since he had passed away..
Regardless, Charles and Janice had gone to the store and purchased snacks and drinks for the family as they prepared for a celebratory evening in.

As nighttime aproached, the family was prepared to stay at home and watch TV.

… Thom’s father’s birthday was New Year’s day ..

In 1977, when I was 27 years old, I was working for an HVAC company in Merrifield, Virginia known as W.T. Imlay & Sons.
I was Lead Mechanic in charge of a 5 man crew installing residential Sheet Metal for Forced Air Systems.

During this period, I had assigned 3 men to work on newly built Townhomes on Washington Street in Alexandria, Virginia while my number 1 Helper and I were working on old renavated Townhomes in the heavily guarded Historic District.
The Job that I was on was a TH that was originally built in 1791 and was going through it’s third major renovation.

One morning when we arrived at the job site, there was a great commotion going on concerning a lower level room that had been found that had been filled with dirt during one of the earlier renovations. This Historic District was extremely strict on such matters and it seemed that some quite valuable artifacts were discovered and some of the workers had absconded with them.
Myself, I unearthed a pile of literature on which one piece of paper was a flyer advertising an upcoming football game and dance between M Street High School and Old Towne High School that was being promoted by the Lincoln Athletic Association from the year 1910.

In the years since, I have misplaced that valuable flyer but I did sit and pen a few off-beat verses referring to it at the time.
In lieu of not having the flyer to show as witness, I will publish said writing for your viewing pleasure.

Wing Ding

Friday March 13, 2009
*********************

The day that I danced on
WING DING
Television Dance Party

Watching the Geico Commercials on TV with the Singers, the Pips .. has reminded me of seeing them about 42 years ago.

When I was 16-17 years old and in my Junior year of High School .. I had a job and I bought myself a car. It was a 1959 Ford. I was probably only one of about 5 in my Class that had wheels. This promptly, jettisoned me into a viable male prospect with all the girls at my High School.

I remember, one day, walking into the Cafeteria at Lunchtime .. and a small group of really hot Sophomore girls asked me to come over to their table for Lunch.
Sh!t, I didn’t even go buy my Lunch; I just went to their table and sat down.

The discussion turned to music. One of the hotties asked if it was me who was the Manager of the Rock’n’Roll band at School, The Changing Tide ? My answer was yes. Yes, I am. That was the truth .. but that was where the truth ended and the BS began. I mentioned that I meandered throughout the area looking at local Bands when I had the time. And that I went to Concerts featuring the biggest names of the day.

I was asked if I ever went to Channel 20’s 'Wing Ding' TV Dance Party. That was a new show that was on between 4 and 5 o’clock and broadcast from just outside Washington, D.C.
I answered in the affirmative .. and could see that I had this group of girls right in my pocket.
All of these girls said they’d love to go on that show .. and so I looked around .. picked out the hottest of the group (Sarah Hansard) and asked her for a date. She replied that she’d love to .. and for a date – we should go on Wing Ding.

And so it was .. a date was set to go on the Wing Ding Dance Party. Sarah and I had to skip the last period of School to get over there in time for the audition .. which was (1) wear a sports jacket, (2) not have alcohol on your breath, and (3) be able to dance.
Whoa, .. that would be a problem. I had only had the nerve to dance at High School and local Teenage Dances if I could down a few beers .. which I did on the way over to the TV Studio.
So, as we were lining up for the breath test - Sarah handed me a pack of Dentyne chewing gum. I unpackaged it and popped every single piece into my mouth.
Twenty seconds later, when the woman was in front of me to check for the smell of alcohol – she informed me that I couldn’t be chewing gum. I acted as though I was going to spit it out into her hand and she told me to go spit it in the trash can by the doorway. I did and didn’t have my breath checked .. and so it was on to Dance Floor.

Gosh, there were lots of Rules, there .. but I obeyed them all .. and had a great time. So did Sarah.
The Live Music that day was provided by Gladys Knight & the Pips. They almost didn’t perform because it was a rainy day .. and Gladys Knight had gotten her hair wet coming into the Studio. Finally, she relented.
They said they were going to do a song that had not come out on record, yet. It was the Marvin Gaye tune, I Heard It Through The Grapevine. A slow dance which I was good at .. and so I kept dragging Sarah over to where the Cameras were.

The next day at School, Sarah was the Bell of the Ball with all the Sophomores .. but my Classmates indicated that they had not seen me at all. Sigh !

And so when I see those Geico TV spots with the Pips .. I’m reminded of that rainy day on River Road in between Potomac, Maryland and Washington, D.C..

* Wing Ding .. which was pronounced WHING .. with an H in it.

Drive South

Written and performed by: John Hiatt

I didn't say we wouldn't hurt anymore
That's how you learn,
you just get burned
But we don't have to feel like dirt anymore
Though love's not earned,
Baby it's our turn
We were always looking for true north
With our heads in the clouds,
just a little off course
I left the motor running,
now if you're feeling down and out

CHORUS:
Come on Baby drive south,
with the one you love
Come on Baby drive south,
with the one you love
.
I'm not talkin' 'bout retreatin' little girl
Gonna take our stand,
in this Chevy van
Windows open on the rest of the world
Holdin' hands,
all the way to Dixieland
We've been tryin' to turn our lives around
Since we were little kids,
it's been wearin' us down
Don't turn away now Darlin'
lets fire it up and wind it out

repeat CHORUS

BRIDGE:
I heard your mama callin',
I think she was just stallin'
Don't know who she was talkin' to,
baby me and you
We could go down
with a smile on,
don't bother to pack your nylons
Just keep them pretty legs showin',
it gets hot down where we're goin'
We were always looking for true north
With our heads in the clouds,
just a little off course
I left the motor running,
now if you're feeling down and out
Come on baby drive, come on baby drive south,
come on baby drive south

repeat CHORUS

Emergency Jump

As the Police arrived at the barn, Dusty began neighing and acting up. Audrey pleaded with the men to hurry as the pony was disturbed.
The Detective, immediately climbed up the 2x4s nailed to the wall studs and into the attic. He looked around but saw nothing. Then, he took his digital camera from his jacket pocket and snapped several pictures. After climbing back down, he and the two Troopers looked all around the inside and outside of the barn. They surveyed the corral and took more pictures of the gauge in the Earth that the Orb, originally had caused. After examining all the Martin’s back property, they asked if they could look into the Moving Van. Audrey had been told not to answer no and so she led them back around to the front of the house. There, Charles stood guard. When told that the Police wanted to look inside the Van, Charles told them that he had to fetch the key from his other pants pocket. He went inside, by himself and just waited, hoping that Thom would reappear from the cargo section of the Truck. Thom didn’t and Charles continued to wait. Finally, he came back out front and made an excuse to the Troopers and the Detective that he had misplaced the key.

The Detective who had grown impatient with the elongated delay took out a special key ring that he had and announced that he would unlock the door with his special skeleton key. Charles tried to make an excuse that would impair the lock but it was too late .. the Detective had unlocked the door and slid it upward. The two Troopers, the Detective, Charles and Audrey stood at the opening peering into the Truck’s cargo area. There were a few small pieces of furniture and some bags of clothing .. AND NOTHING ELSE !
Charles looked in Audrey’s direction but Audrey had, already, fainted and had fallen to the Porch’s floor. One of the Troopers helped her back to her feet as Charles yelled to his wife, Janice to get a glass of water. As Audrey was revived, the Detective looked satisfied.

… AND NOTHING ELSE ! ..

verse 1

john singleton mosby
was his name
but the gray ghost
was his claim to fame
born a virginia gentleman
to father alfred and mother virginny
his childhood health was poor
and his body was frail and skinny
he was 27 years old
at the outbreak of the civil war
where he became a guerrilla scout
highlighting his legendary lore

hook

on st. patrick’s day in 1863
snow blowing - you could barely see
him and just four of his rebel rangers
captured 26 yankee strangers
creating a historical sensation
with the raid at the herndon railroad station

verse 2

mosby attended u.va.
in the blue ridge hill and dale
but he shot a classmate bully
and spent time in the charlottesville jail
he was pardoned by the governor
in the year 1853
then married pauline clark
and attained his law degree
and although he was against secession
he joined the southern cause
and soon became a major
gaining great applause

verse 3

mosby became famous
for carrying out daring raids
inside the union lines
behind enemy barricades
he captured general stoughton
while he slept in 1862

mosby replied, no but he got you
soonafter president ulysses s. grant

many heard the gray ghost scream

26 yankees sat to dine
but mosby stole their horses and guns
and after capture – ate their homemade pies

Like a Hurricane

Like A Hurricane

Written and performed by: Neil Young

If you are a fan of Neil Young
this tune has to be in your top 5 favorites …

Like a Hurricane is a song written by Neil Young in 1975 and first released on the album American Stars 'N Bars in 1977.
Neil wrote this song after a cocaine-fueled night with friend and La Honda neighbor Taylor Phelps in the back of his car, (a DeSoto Suburban), when Young was unable to sing due to an operation on his vocal cords. Driven by his trademark fierce guitars, the song has been played on nearly every tour Neil Young has done since. It has also appeared on the compilations Decade and Greatest Hits and on the live albums Live Rust, Weld and Unplugged (this last rendition is played almost entirely on a pump organ).
An edited version of Like a Hurricane was released as a single on August 8th 1977, with Hold Back the Tears as B-side.

Once I thought I saw you
in a crowded hazy bar,
Dancing on the light
from star to star.
Far across the moonbeam
I know that's who you are,
I saw your brown eyes
turning once to fire.

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer
where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away.

I am just a dreamer,
but you are just a dream,
You could have been
anyone to me.
Before that moment
you touched my lips
That perfect feeling
when time just slips
Away between us
on our foggy trip.

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer
where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away.

You are just a dreamer,
and I am just a dream.
You could have been
anyone to me.
Before that moment
you touched my lips
That perfect feeling
when time just slips
Away between us
on our foggy trip.

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer
where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away.

Emergency Jump

At least, for a while. Soon, cars were parking all along the road and people were meandering all over the place. Finally, the County Police were summoned out to the Hills to keep the traffic moving.
By evening, the Police were keeping cars moving fairly well and most cars were no longer parking dangerously close to the road.
Audrey fielded a phone call from the County Court informing the Martins that a Court Order was going to be delivered during the next business day giving the Court the right to search the Martin’s property. No attorney was going to be able to delay this Order.

Thom, Audrey, Janice and Charles had decided that a plan B was going to be necessary. Again, Thom went out to discuss the matter with the EOB. With no place to move the Orb and no way to delay the search until the January 1st Jump in New York, they were going to have to make arrangements to relocate the Orb. It was decided that Charles would go into Gundy and rent a medium sized Moving Van. Then, during the middle of the night, they would remove the Orb from the barn and sneak it into the Moving Van. That way, they could drive the Van into another location closer to New York.

As darkness covered the landscape and it became impossible to see any distances, especially from the road to over the ridge to the barn – Thom began preparing the Orb for a move. By the time Charles returned with the Truck, more people were browsing the fields near the Martin’s home. Charles decided to back the Truck up to near the house’s front door. Maybe if they made it look like they were moving some furniture, the onlookers wouldn’t suspect anything else was taking place. Charles entered the house and actually brought out an End Table and a lamp .. just to give the appearance of furniture moving. Janice joined in by carrying some of there belongings and a suitcase into the Moving Van. Audrey decided to do likewise. She grabbed some clothing bags and deposited them into the Truck.

… With no place to move the Orb ..

Siouxsie Says

Monday March 2, 2009
************************

Hello, my name is Siouxsie
I write songs, sing and play guitar in the Florida keys .. and
Siouxsie says …

In 2005, I was fortunate to have been a part of a PBS production of Carole King’s 'Welcome To My Living Room' tour.

I was invited to play three songs with my 1978 Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar at Red Rocks Amphitheatre just outside of Denver, Colorado.

I played as a part of the full ensemble on Carole’s 1962 smash hit, Loco-Motion. I also sang my best selling song, Aye with that group. But my highlight of the night and my life was singing a duet with Carole.

In 2004, I was performing a gig in Marathon, Florida along the islands known simply as the Keys. After my first 50 minute set, the establishment’s owner took me to a nondescript table off stage left and introduced me to the recording legend – Carole King. I was so shocked and astonished that without thinking, I went to my knees at her feet. I was unable to speak but I clearly heard her say that she was enjoying my show.
When I was able to compose myself, she and I chatted for 5 minutes or so.
She was on vacation by herself, completely by herself. Completely.
I asked her to sit in with me and do something and was astounded that she agreed. Her only request was that I not mention her real name. Something to do with her new record label yada yada yada and privacy.
I knew several of her songs but we agreed to do a song that she wrote in the mid 1960s called Sometime In The Morning. This song was made famous by the made for TV band The Monkees who performed it on one of their television shows.

So, she and I went into the owner’s bar suite and practiced the song for about 3-4 minutes; tops. Then she went back to her table. After my customary 10 minute break, I came back onstage and did 2 covers that I normally do. Then I looked over at Carole and smiled. She nodded affirmatively and poured down the remainder of her drink. I introduced her as Queen Carole and told the 50 or so patrons that she was one of my childhood neighbors. No one seemed to suspect a thing.
After we knocked out the two and a half minute number, the crowd stood and applauded. It must have dawned on the audience who my singing partner could be because quite a few people approached her over the following 20 minutes or so. I noticed that she would shake her head as if saying, no – I’m not Carole King.

And so, at Red Rocks, Carole and I reprised that night’s tune with grand success. And again, we received a standing ovation. This time from thousands instead of 50 or so.
The shivers went down my arms and legs and I’ll never forget that night for as long as I may live.

The musicians that evening were absolutely fabulous. FABULOUS!
Besides me and my acoustic guitar, there were:
a Lead Guitarist
a Rhythm Guitarist
a Rhythm Guitarist (non-electric)
a Bass Guitarist
a Dobro player
a Pedal Steel Guitarist
a Fiddle player
a Banjo player
a Mandolin player
a Saxophone player
a Trumpet player
a Trombone player
an Organist
a Piano player
and
2 Drummers (one bongos et al)
along with 6 back up singers (3 men / 3 women)

My agent is currently negotiating a possible gig for me later this Summer – Autumn at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas to be televised later on PBSs Austin City Limits.
